It's MLK day. Why am I at work?

I'm more than a little annoyed that I have to work today. I'm so used to spending the day being a do-gooder, but alas it was not in the cards for this year.

My weekend was pretty good. Friday I took the day off to celebrate Maurice's birthday. We went to MGM grand, played poker with Monopoly money (Texas Hold-em is complicated and will get you broke real quick), and then we watched Biker Boyz. It actually surprised me. It wasn't as useless of a movie as I thought it was going to be. It was actually fairly entertaining.

Saturday, I planned to wake up at 7 am to get dressed and go make cookies for our after-concert Fellowship. What actually happened was the spontaneous decision of my next door neighbor to play the new Alicia Keys CD at 4:30 in the morning. Yeah, I was a little ticked, to say the least. I did wake up and go make the cookies (at my mom's, because the cookies were shortbread and I can't place the frosting on them).

Then I rushed back to my apartment for the writing group meeting that never was. It's pretty useless to have a meeting where no one shows except the group moderators, don't you think.

Then my mom called and tells me that the after-Concert fellowship had been cancelled. So I baked cookies at 7 in the morning FOR NOTHING!

I napped for precisely one hour, and then I got dressed to go to the Concert. I left my apt at 4:15. I did not have to be there until 5, but I wanted to make sure traffic wouldn't be bad(it was snowing on Saturday).
I made it there by a quarter to 5. Needless to say, traffic was fine.

The concert was fabulous. We sang a couple of selections, but the other choirs we invited were astounding. We had praise dancers (children and young adults from our church) and a group which performed songs in sign language. I even learned the signs for "marvelous" and "yes."

The concert lasted three hours, 10 minutes. 3/4 of the way through, I pulled a muscle in my neck and took an 800mg Motrin. By the time I got home, I was ready to pass out. I returned a phone call from loveprincess524 and crashed.

Sunday, I did nothing, zilch, squat. I started Atkins and sat on my bum.

So, that was my weekend. I need more sleep.

working too hard...

Love, not even I worked on MLK day! One good thing about my job is the concept of a 4 day weekend. I took friday and monday off (but got called in on friday anyway, but only had to put in about 2 hours of work to make up for someone elses stupidty, but no biggy.

Asside from the neck pain sounds like the concert was a blast, so you feeling better now?

Re: working too hard...

It's not like it's voluntary. We don't get MLK day off. A few years ago we had to choose either Good Friday or MLK Day. There must be a lot of Christians here, because Good Friday won.
